  “The End.” Every single one of us, anyone who has ever heard a story, has heard these two words uttered at the end of a vivid journey into the depths of a writer's imagination. A few moments after these syllables, the book was closed, the lights were off and we drifted off into a dreamful sleep full of the whispering hills, the creepy forests, and the magical wonderlands we heard about in these stories. Over the years, we slowly and steadily accumulated a treasure trove of knowledge and a mind full of plots, characters, and climaxes, and we read books that seemed to get larger as we grew. Soon thereafter, we sorted the books we read into those that were outstanding and those that were disappointing. OPPOSITES ATTRACT

Like the North and South poles, without any similarities, opposites attract. This story is about a pair of twin sisters Celia and Milia. Though these girls had a lot in common, they had some differences, too. Celia was tall and serious and Milia was short and funny.  During their summer break, not knowing what to do to pass their time, they decided to go on an adventure, since they never had been on one. After packing their backpacks, they traveled to the countryside near their town.  The next morning, they ventured into a nearby forest. It was beautiful with a sparkling stream flowing by, butterflies fluttering around, flowers dancing in the wind, and tall redwood trees covering the entire hillside. MORE ALIKE, LESS DIFFERENT

“It’s not our disabilities, it’s our abilities that count.”  -Chris Burke, Down syndrome advocate.    Last summer, on my trip to West Bengal, India, I volunteered at a school for differently-abled children. At first, all I wanted was proof of work that I would be able to submit here, at my school. But my experience there helped me more than those submitting the paperwork ever would. It gave me a new perspective on life itself, for which I am very grateful to the children there. It all started at my Middle School, where NJHS (The National Junior Honor Society) gave me the assignment for the volunteer hours to be completed over the summer. My grandparents found the Bidhan Chandra Pratibandhi Karmakendra, ABLING THE DISABLED, (named after Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, former Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal and inaugurated by Mother Teresa), as a suitable special needs school for me to finish the assignment by working there. “When saving people from someone ferocious, with kindness , that ferocious one will someday be your friend.” Have you heard of the name Eraser World? Well, this story is about  four eraser friends, Furry, the teddy bear, Finny, the dolphin, Shelly, the turtle, and Bubbly, the fish   These erasers have never seen or touched any pencils or their gray marks. One day, Furry decided to go fishing. He grabbed his fishing pole and bait. As he fished, he saw a little underwater friend Shelly.  “Hello!” Furry called, startled. When Shelly looked up, Furry saw a sad look on her face. On asking what the matter was, he learned that Shelly had lost her friends Finny and Bubbly deep down in the waters. Hearing this, Furry turned into a sleuth to help his new friend. With a magic touch from Shelly, Furry could breathe underwater by wearing a sleek diving suit that could provide oxygen for many hours. Long before I started my journey of a lifetime, I used to think that life was perfect in every way and that you don’t need to work really hard to make it better or appreciated. I was wrong and over the period of four years, I shed light on life’s true purpose. When I started taekwondo, I realized that life is not always perfect or how you want it to be, but you need constant determination to make your life choices and others’ lives better. Taekwondo helped me achieve the fact that having a positive and strength-filled self, contributes to this monumental goal. “I develop myself in a positive manner and avoid anything that will reduce my mental growth and physical health.
