THE EARTH IN FIVE SENSES - A POEM

Celebrating 51 years of EARTH Day



To me, the Earth looks like

an obloid sphere that shines with blue and green,
from space, it's beautiful, what a sight to be seen. 

To me, the Earth smells like

fragrant flowers, wet grass after a rainfall,
and sweet-smelling air, loved by all.

To me, the Earth tastes like

sweet fruits and savory vegetables
with such a taste, it's unforgettable.

To me, the Earth feels like

home, a warm hug, and family,
Earth takes care of us very carefully.

To me, the Earth sounds like

ocean waves crashing on the shore
birds whistling in the trees 
pushed by the wind uproar,
and silent mountains, towering strong,
and these are the sounds that are with us all along.

Oh, Earth, you are so beautiful,
thank you for all that you do.
You provide us with everything we need.
Oh! We love you indeed.

  PROLOGUE   On a wintry afternoon in Derry Township, Pennsylvania,  with flurry snow and icicles glistening in the Sun, Cora and Sydia, the two sisters,  were watching the movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'' and they both loved CHOCOLATE.  Halfway through the movie, sipping their hot chocolate, wide-eyed and engrossed in Willy Wonka and his Golden Ticket, Sydia whispered to herself, “I wish we could learn more about chocolate. Less than a second after Sydia said her wish, thunder boomed and lightning flashed. Then, the two sisters had just enough time to hold hands and found themselves whirling through a portal. Epilogue July 16, 394 B.C. Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea Destruction. Devastation. Annihilation. These were the only words Calum Reed could use to describe the scene unfolding around him. Long before I started my journey of a lifetime, I used to think that life was perfect in every way and that you don’t need to work really hard to make it better or appreciated. I was wrong and over the period of four years, I shed light on life’s true purpose. When I started taekwondo, I realized that life is not always perfect or how you want it to be, but you need constant determination to make your life choices and others’ lives better. Taekwondo helped me achieve the fact that having a positive and strength-filled self, contributes to this monumental goal. “I develop myself in a positive manner and avoid anything that will reduce my mental growth and physical health. I develop self-discipline, in order to bring out the best in myself and others. I use common sense before self-defense, and never be abusive or offensive. Oh, what a beautiful night, I looked up at the sky with all my might. In the vast dark space, I saw were only stars, Suddenly, I saw a bright light gleaming far. Could it be? Yes, it was the moon, Hanging in the distance, floating like a balloon. All of the craters and silence, not a single sound, Only shimmering dust, not a single mound of rock or any cloud. Look! There are first men in a rocket, Focused, aiming for their target. One was touching down and was upon the moon, Making history that will speak volume. Stellar stars, making the night sky,  And constellations twinkle with delight.  The marvelous Milky Way, our home galaxy,  The planets, all making the Solar System our family. The stupendous shooting stars making our wishes come true, I love space because we are always learning things new. Oh, what a beautiful night, It makes me stay behind.
