Mind 2 Paper

  PROLOGUE   On a wintry afternoon in Derry Township, Pennsylvania,  with flurry snow and icicles glistening in the Sun, Cora and Sydia, the two sisters,  were watching the movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'' and they both loved CHOCOLATE.  Halfway through the movie, sipping their hot chocolate, wide-eyed and engrossed in Willy Wonka and his Golden Ticket, Sydia whispered to herself, “I wish we could learn more about chocolate. Less than a second after Sydia said her wish, thunder boomed and lightning flashed. Then, the two sisters had just enough time to hold hands and found themselves whirling through a portal.   “Power is a magical phenomenon. There is no need to show, with heroic deeds, people know.” One Monday morning, a little girl named Uma was going to The Valley of Learning Elementary School. It was her first day of second grade. She and her parents have moved to the city for a new life, and she loved the place the moment she laid eyes on it.  “Here we are!“ Her dad said from the driver’s seat. “Grab your backpack, Uma.   “The End.” Every single one of us, anyone who has ever heard a story, has heard these two words uttered at the end of a vivid journey into the depths of a writer's imagination. A few moments after these syllables, the book was closed, the lights were off and we drifted off into a dreamful sleep full of the whispering hills, the creepy forests, and the magical wonderlands we heard about in these stories. Over the years, we slowly and steadily accumulated a treasure trove of knowledge and a mind full of plots, characters, and climaxes, and we read books that seemed to get larger as we grew. Soon thereafter, we sorted the books we read into those that were outstanding and those that were disappointing. Like the legends of yore, the superheroes we so adore, many books step into the spotlight and relish their popularity, while others retract into the shade of obscurity. But why is this so? Throughout our lives, we have seen in our pop culture most people’s perception of what a hero is. We have seen countless times Superman fly in to save the day, or Captain America fend off aliens with his shield, or even Iron Man heroically save the existence of humanity with a snap of his fingers, but what really is the definition of heroism? What makes a person a hero? Merriam-Webster describes a hero as “ a person admired for achievements and noble qualities.” Perhaps that definition is valid but it could be elaborated upon much more. In my eyes, what makes a person a hero are the facts that he or she must put the lives and needs of others on equal, if not higher, footing as their own, have the boldness to accomplish something no one else dares to try, to possess the courage to be afraid and to have the courage to forgive, if not forget.    SELFLESS   First of all, a hero needs to be selfless, which is, to say, that the hero needs to believe that all other people are ...
